DisneyWorld with Dalvero Academy!

I just got back from another great workshop in DisneyWorld with Dalvero Academy and instructors Veronica Lawlor and Margaret Hurst. It was 5 days of drawing, experimenting, and working all day on-location in the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and EPCOT. Can't get enough!

Below are a few drawings and thumbnails:

Disney's Electric Light Parade

I just returned from another wonderful drawing workshop in DisneyWorld, Florida, with Dalvero Academy. 9 days of drawing and study in the hottest place on Earth! I decided to post a series of cut paper sample posters I did of the Electric Light Parade in Magic Kingdom from my trip last year that never got posted. It's always a lot of fun to hear the beeping and whirring come down the street, with all the main lights off and just the twinkling of the parade and the outlines of Main Street USA. Plus, the retro video game music kind of puts you in a trance after a long day of drawing.

(I am not affiliated with Disney in any way, nor are the posters. They are just for fun.)

Disney: India at Animal Kingdom

Disneyworld is great because you have access to pieces from cultures all over the world in one place. On this day in the south Asian side of Animal Kingdom, I decided to create one long drawing as a mural design, to play with the type of storytelling and weaving of patterns that Indian miniatures use. Here are a few close-ups:

A hut nestled in the forest
The gibbons on their climbing structure
A family of Indian tourists
The tiger on the nature walk and the lines of people for a ride
The beautiful jungle and river that winds its way through the park

Disneyworld: Hollywood Studios

I just got back from another wonderful drawing trip to Disneyworld in Orlando with 8 (long) days of drawing, studying, and learning. It's always nice to be able to completely reorient yourself and come back feeling exhausted, refreshed, inspired, and playful.

One of my favorite days this trip was a day at Disney Hollywood Studios (MGM) where I got to play around with a town of sunny and colorful California art deco.

Disney Trip #3!

Last week I got back from another class in Disneyworld, and it was wonderful as always! It was great to get into the mode of studying and playing around again. Speaking of playing around, here is a drawing from the nighttime light parade at the Magic Kingdom, full of psychedelic retro-wackiness!

Disney: Spectral MAGIC!

So last year at Disney, there happened to be a slight hurricane the entire time we were there. So the Spectral Magic Night Parade Extravaganza was canceled every night we were in the Magic Kingdom. But THIS time, there was no hurricane, and I finally got to see the parade. It was fantastic! They shut off all of the lights on Main Street, and then these bizarre, neon, laser-light, floats and dancers come swirling around and winding their way through the streets, with futuristic beeping and whirring sound effects. It's very beautiful, and very trippy. My favorite part was the Pegaus float from Fantasia, I'm going to have to do a drawing of just them next year....
